Our latest travel adventures

I’m very excited to say that I have recently returned from a visit to Peru and Bolivia, exploring new experiences that I hope one day will become HighLives’ adventures.

On this trip I also geared myself up for some high altitude fitness challenges: on my fifth day at high altitude, I trekked through the highest forest in the world, in the foothills of the 6,542m Nevado Sajama mountain.
You can view some of the picture of this amazing trip below and if you are inspired, see here for more details.

As I’ve experienced on returning to my homeland before, being born there doesn’t help too much with dealing with the effects of altitude. I have to get used to it like every other visitor. For this trip I prepared myself by taking Altivit, a vitamin formula. But the key is to take things very easy for the first day or so and that hopefully will mean the rest of the trip can be enjoyed to the full.

One of HighLives' trips, Sublime Summits, was featured in Wanderlust travel magazine last month The spectacular cover photo is on our main destination, the surreal landscapes of Bolivia's desert reserve and Salar de Uyuni salt flats. You can follow us on facebook or our google plus pages, where I will be posting photos of the trip, see here.

Bolivia's mountain capital La Paz has some of the most spectacular urban views in the world, but I never want to experience this one. See here to see a terrifying clip of a mountain biker hurtling down the city's alleys and switchback roads as part of The Condor Descent extreme downhill race. Then turn off and have a calming cup of tea to steady your nerves.

In the meantime, here are some photos of our travel experiences to inspire you.

PS-One of the consequences of staying at altitude can be your body's increased metabolism. When I returned from my trip I was 3kg lighter, without any diet or extreme exercise routines. If you're interested in
seeing the effects for yourself, contact us to book a detox experience for January.
